The law
Real estate registration is governed by Law No. 5 of 2024 on Real Estate Registration, which replaced Law No. 14 of 1964.
What must be registered
Sales and other dealings that create, transfer or change ownership and other principal rights in property must be registered. Under the 2024 law, an unregistered right does not take effect as a property right; it remains only a contractual claim between the parties.
Where
The Ministry of Justice's Real Estate Registration Department handles registration, including through its online registration portal with electronic signatures and payments.
Disputes
The law set up a Real Estate Registration Committee to settle registration disputes, with a 15-day window to appeal its decisions.
